Mikhail Kripets: The beginning of the War

Categories: Beginning of the war, Mikhail Kripets

Where were you when the war began?

At home. I was at home. I was thirteen years old.

In Polish times we were called the Kryptsavs’ sons, the Bolshevicks’ sons. Me and my brother. And here, besides, the war had begun. Ours mobilized people for the Polish war. They uniformed very early, and till the evening our father had already returned home. And we talked. I told my mother, «Mom, soltys has come. A soldier». We were glad because he came very beautiful dressed in this, this military uniform.
