The song holiday in Daugavpils and input of military forces of the USSR to Latvia in 1940

Categories: Beginning of the war, Helena Bilinska

“On our way back from the Song festival, when we were going back, but we, being at the festival, did not know that Russians had entered Latvia in the year forty. We were at Mežvidi, on, on our way back from the Song festival, but the Russian army had already entered, we met them there. We were scared when that, that happened. And then the Russians surrounded all of us. But, you see, Germans drove them off, we spent four years with Germany then. When I was still singing, in German times we participated in some Song festival in Rēzekne, I was also in the song festival in Ludza.”
