The Germans in Orenburg

Categories: Mode of life, Ira Motolyga

And what did the captured Germans do in Orenburg?

They were being led, probably, by the builders or anybody else. They were being led and they were going. And we though, we didn’t know who were they, and then Anka twitched our mother’s hand, «Let’s go out, the military are being led, maybe there is our father there!» And she said, «Anechka, these are the Germans!»

Did you know what the Germans were doing at the occupied territory?

Yes, we knew, our grandmother told us. She was walking and saying, «They have broken it, so they will build it». We remember that very well. «They have broken it, so they will build it. Nobody will let them go until they built it up»

And did you know what they did with the Jews in Belarus?

No, I knew nothing, I knew nothing and couldn’t understand that, I even didn’t know who are the Jews.
