Jewish tradition

Just a few spoke at the children’s presence. The elder spoke their own language. I could understand a little, but couldn’t speak. I have one sister, she says, «Speak Russian, or else I will..., I will go away from here. I can’t understand anything». And she cannot understand up to now, just can’t understand.

And what kind of dishes did you cook?

Yes, my grandmother. There was nothing to cook from. My grandmother cooked these, how are they called…, teiglach. Such small buns. Then they were mixed with honey, it was called teiglach. Also we cooked a stuffed fish. But the main dish was tzimmes.

What is tzimmes cooked from?

Tzimmes was cooked from carrots that were stewed. My grandmother had been always asked, «What are beautiful and chubby grandchildren you have. What do you feed them with?» And she answered, «With tzimmes».
